This microwave heats evenly even without having the turntable in the bottom. The only complaint I have is that if you are steaming vegetables, the steam gets into the front where all the buttons are, and you cannot push them to open it when they are done. You have to wait for the steam to clear, then push the button.

No stars review. This microwave is the only one that fits in our cabinet so we replaced it once after only a few years. Now the new one we purchased is having problems opening when I hit the open drawer button. I will absolutely buy a different brand & change out my cabinet before I would buy this one again at such a crazy high price.

I bought this two years ago and within two years I have repaired it three times. There is always problem with ERR F1E5 MW INVERTER. I was sold a lemon. Kitchenaid or the extended warranty will not replace. I have been using kitchenaid for 20 years and have always had good satisfaction with their appliances. However, my recent purchases have been disappointing and a total waste of my money.

Good when it works, but that is rare. I think I™™m on my 5th repair of the same part. First time it broke it was under warranty & I wish Kitchenaid would™™ve just replaced the whole microwave rather than trying to fix it at that time. With all the issues I™™ve had it™™s definitely not worth the price tag.

I™™ve had the built in under counter microwave for a few years now & it worked great for the first year. Of course, once the 1 year warranty expired it began having issues. Repairman is here today replacing the magnetron for the 3rd time now. After reading multiple reviews from different sources this seems to be a consistent problem with these microwaves. Hopefully Kitchenaid fixes this problem moving forward.

We got this microwave to keep our counters clear and uncluttered. Did not want to mount a microwave under the upper cabinets due to hazards of spilling hot liquids. I wish the controls were backlit, they are hard to read. Programming controls are not intuitive.

This microwave has a drawer that open and closes horizontally. After two weeks of use when the drawer closes it pops open again about 2 inches. I can push it shut to use the microwave but for a product that is supposedly Whirlpool's "upgraded" line this is completely unacceptable. I have a video that I wanted to attach to this post but I have to upload it to YouTube first which is absolutely ridiculous.
When Whirlpool actually replied to another complaint I had with one of their other appliances you have to respond to them through Facebook or Instagram. I don't have a Facebook account and I barely use Instagram. I offered my phone number. So for no reply. KitchenAid is the worst company I have ever interacted with. Do yourself a favor and don't buy KitchenAid products. It's just not worth the headaches and hassles.

The microwave works fine microwaving food but after about 5 weeks of use the door broke. The door slides into the unit but as it fully closes it pops open again. Hit open and it comes back out; hit close and it closes and then pops about 2 inches open again. Push it closed and the microwave works but the fact that a brand new appliance has this issue is just ridiculous. It™™s completely unacceptable.
Add to this an induction range where 2 of the 5 heating elements did not work and a hood that didn™™t work at all. We also have a Kitchen Aid refrigerator and double oven. I expect I will have problems with these appliances too.
The technician who was supposed to come fix the induction range and hood never showed up after I waited almost a month for an appointment. Kitchen Aid is a substandard product that any prospective buyer should stay away from. I will never buy a Kitchen Aid product again.

We had this microwave drawer installed in our kitchen island, and while it looks sleek and modern, there are two major issues with its functionality.
First, it performs very poorly when it comes to heating food. Because there™™s no turntable, food doesn™™t heat evenly. If something needs two minutes, I have to warm it for one minute, open the drawer, rotate the dish manually, and then heat it for another minute. Honestly, an inexpensive countertop microwave does a better job.
Second, when hosting guests, people naturally lean against the island while chatting. Unfortunately, they often bump the control panel by accident, which can turn the microwave on without them realizing it.
If you decide to purchase this model, I strongly recommend having your countertop overhang the microwave drawer by a few inches to help prevent accidental button presses.

In 2022, we did a full kitchen remodel and decided to invest in KitchenAid across the board ™" the built-in microwave, dishwasher, double oven, and the largest refrigerator they offered that wasn™™t Sub-Zero. We expected quality for the price. Instead, we™™ve had nothing but issues.
Within six months, we had to call a repair tech because the microwaves wiring had fried. That $4,000 refrigerator didn™™t even make it a year.
Last night, the dishwasher stopped draining ™" we haven™™t had a repair tech out yet, but it looks like it™™s done after barely making it three years.
A couple of weeks ago, the oven started throwing an error code. We can clear it for now™¦ but we™™re not expecting it to survive much longer either.
We ultimately replaced the fridge with a $1,200 GE, and ™" shocker ™" no issues so far. As it should be for something not even two years old.
This isn™™t a review. It™™s a warning. Buyer beware.

The microwave works that™™s why I rated a 2. It is difficult to see the numbers. It does not have a sound at the end of a cooking session. The display panel should be turned up not out facing since this is an under the counter appliance. Basically you have to stoop down to see it. Also the display should be back lit. It™™s really overpriced for what you get. I expect more from KitchenAid.

Bought this 2 1/2 years ago and door opens before cycle ends like10 seconds after starting. Called customer service and was routed to 17 different people over 6 hours and 2 days without any help. They are lost and don™™t know how to help a customer. Told two different support options about replacement plates. Do not buy kitchenaid. Our kitchen aid fridge needed repaired less than 2 years after purchasing.

We bought a fairly new home (4 years old) and inherited an built in undercounter microwave with it. What a big pain in the you know what! It is super sensitive and will open or turn on if your clothing or body lightly touches it. We did figure out the lock button (no product manual was provided by the home seller) and utilize it often and I have also now printed a product manual. The microwave isn't tall enough to cook some of the frozen items that you steam in the bag as the bag stands too high. The microwave doesn't have a turntable and heats very unevenly. I'm still trying to figure out all the features since I now have a manual but I would never ever choose to put one of these in. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how inconvenient it would be when we bought the home and I'm not sure it would have been a deal breaker but it's definitely not as cool as it seems to have an under the counter microwave.

The microwave works. It™™s KitchenAid that™™s the issue. Extremely poor web site, zero support from customer service, terrible delivery experience. They expect you to download and print an 89 page novel in 6 languages to try and figure out how to use it. Seriously, you can™™t supply an owner™™s manual for a $2,000 appliance?
Save some $$$$ and buy buy a different microwave

This drawer microwave saves so much space, it fits under your counter and is easy to use.
One problem we had is when cooking rice the condensation inside fogged up the display panel causing the drawer to not close properly. The technician ordered us a new display screen which we are hoping will solve the problem.

Microwave works as expected. Very disappointed there is no tray or carousel. For the price, you would expect at the very minimum, a glass tray that you could remove to clean. Setting your container directly on the floor of the microwave just seems cheap. Come on, for the price you charge for these microwaves, put something in there. I mean, a cheap $100 microwave has them.

After owning a microwave with a turnstile it appears the drawer style does not heat food as efficiently. My only reason for this is because the food is not rotated. Plan to buy a tray to help with this issue.

My wife selected this drawer style microwave as part of a complete kitchen remodeling project. The microwave is installed in the top section of a base cabinet which puts the top of the microwave 34" above the floor, necessary for top loading the unit. The microwave performs as well as any other 950 W unit, however, the user interface is terrible. The control panel is cluttered with many cooking options that require you to remember or look up information from the user guide. I prefer to control the microwave using time and power level so the added features are of no value. Control panel text is small and is only visible from the front, you must bend over to read the text. Worst of all is setting cook time and power. Power level can only be changed after setting cook time (MM:SS) and cannot be changed after cooking has started making the "Add 1 Min" feature useful for only cooking at 100% power (which I don't use often). To cook a small item for 1 minute at 40% power requires touching the panel 10 times! 3 times to set 1:00 time and 7 times to set power to 40%. I could do this with 3 touches on my low cost GE microwave (press 1 for 1 minute, press Power Level, press 4). Very frustrating to make 10 touches while bending over to see the control panel.

The engineer/designer of this microwave should return to a new modified version™¦one that is closer to the Sharp undercounter microwave that has the control panel hidden. I wish I would have selected the Sharp brand vs.Kitchenaid. Why? The control panel needs to be continuously locked and then unlocked to use in order to avoid the unit from running because someone accidentally has bumped the control panel. I have a picture of a splash guard that melted because someone didn™™t know their leaning resulted in the microwave being turned on. That is a fire hazard and I™™m guessing I™™m not the first client to voice concern. How does the control panel not recognize the difference between a finger selection vs someone leaning or bumping up to the control panel.

Bought and installed 4 years ago. Functionally ti works fine. However, the control panel is not backlit and it makes it impossible to read what the control buttons are. You literally have to either shine a light on it or get on your knees to read the control buttons. Very poor design choice.

I purchased this KitchenAid drawer microwave a couple of years ago replacing a Sharp. I purchased a KitchenAid so it would match my other appliances. I really didn't pay attention to the design when I purchased it. But the panel does not flip up like my Sharp drawer microwave so you can see display. The display does not light up except the very center and you have to stoop down to see the display. It is very hard to read. I have just memorized the positions to be able to use it conveniently. Otherwise it works great.

We have had 2 of these Kitchen Aid drawer-style microwaves. The first was repaired twice due to magnetron failure. On the THIRD failure (electronics) we decided not to replace rather than fix this one again. We had very few options at that time for a different brand (the better, less-expensive brands' dimensions were not compatible), so we ordered another Kitchen Aid from HD. It is now a few years old and the plastic on the top interior lining is again burned-looking, exactly how our issues started with the first one. We mostly re-heat things for a few minutes and now are concerned we have started the whole process again. I would strongly advise NOT buying this or similar Kitchen Aid model if you have other options. Our whole kitchen was furnished with Kitchen Aid appliances and half of them are of very poor quality. This is a very functional microwave. It™™s the second time we™™ve owned the very same one unfortunately. We had to replace the original after it lasted only five years with limited use. We looked into having the original repaired but were told the parts and labor would be more expensive than replacing the unit. Expensive either way! What a disappointment. Since this is an under the counter fitted unit we did not have other options.

We recently purchased all new appliances to upgrade our kitchen. We've had this microwave for about a month. I really wanted to love it, but honestly hate it. I know that sounds strong, but its very frustrating. I wish I could exchange it for another model. First, the drawer moves in and out at a snail's pace, and it has to be fully extended before you can close it. So annoying. Next, the control panel buttons are not very responsive and often require multiple presses before they work. The cooking performance is mixed. Sometimes it works great, other times the food is cold, and other times the food is steps from burning, even with the same time settings. The sensor functions are useless... melting butter either explodes every time, popcorn leaves have the bag unpopped, and defrosting overcooks. Lastly, this is a small thing, but to me, the stainless steel doesn't really match the other KitchenAid stainless steel appliances. I am not sure what it is, but it bugs me. I had high-hopes for this rather expensive microwave, but am sorely disappointed.

Have had now for awhile many months. Display could be better. The center screen is lit but the keys you have to push are not illuminated and we have to use a flashlight to set which button to push. Such a small problem to make an otherwise unit so good so bad.
